As
is the case in many schools, special events
are often a highlight of the year. Perhaps because
we are a small school or maybe as a result of
the strong ties between the school and the community,
these events are often accompanied by an extra
element of involvement and enthusiasm.
Children’s
Day

Older kids use their artistic ablities to make the day fun for all! |
|
Día
de Los Niños or Children’s
Day, similar to Mother’s or
Father’s Day, is a day set
aside in Costa Rica to honor children. Instead of a day of classes students get the opportunity to enjoy activities such as face painting, relay races, theater games, and treats. |

Independence
Day

Rican dance. |
|
On September
15th, the school celebrated Costa
Rican Independence Day. Speakers
from Nicaragua and Chile reflected
on what it means to live in political
and economic freedom. Children,
dressed in traditional attire, participated
in activities ranging from the singing
of songs to theatrical productions.

Children
created faroles or torches, an important
element in the local celebration. |

Sports Day
 |
Community
wide participation and fantastic
weather all contributed to make
Sports Day a huge success! The funds
raised were set aside for paying
off the school’s Sports Court.

Christmas
Fair

Community
members sell handicrafts from their
country of origin, Ecuador. |
|
The Christmas
Fair is yet another important fund
raising event for the school. Local
artists support the Christmas craft
bazaar by offering a percentage
of their sales to the school and
in turn gain community wide exposure
and support.
